Publications include Latina, the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News, South Jersey Magazine, Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, Alternet, ColorLines, The Crime Report, KoreAm Journal, and more. (Full-time freelance since September 2009.)

Newsday, Reporter/Intern, June 2007 to August 2009.
As intern reporter for the Long Island, N.Y., daily newspaper, beat coverage has included municipal government and education. As Kaiser health intern, wrote health, science and environment articles, including a story about Washington's vaccine court. That story was featured in the news summary of the Casey Journalism Center on Children and Families among the best coverage of children and family issues. Some of my work has appeared on Newsday's cover and has been published in other newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times. Daily circulation: 400,000. Sunday circulation: 460,000.

Columbia Journalism Review, Intern, January 2007 to May 2007.
Wrote commentary for CJRDaily.org, a real-time outlet for journalism critique run by the Columbia Journalism Review. Performed fact checking, research and administrative tasks for the media magazine.

The Burlington County (N.J.) Times, Intern, May 2005 to August 2005.
Wrote two front-page stories covering the suspension of a local superintendent, along with other news, features and entertainment stories covering various towns in the 450,000-population county. Daily circulation: 44,000.

The Baltimore Sun, Intern, February 2005 to May 2005.
Wrote news stories and features covering Baltimore and Harford Counties, including a long, narrative feature about a local man who worked in Russia as a missionary. Daily circulation: 300,000. Sunday circulation: 450,000.

The Gloucester County (N.J.) Times, Intern, June 2004 to August 2004.
Won the New Jersey Press Foundation scholarship for work as a feature reporter for the weekly NOW teen section. Wrote an enterprise story about local open mike nights and the lead story for a package on the youth vote. Also contributed news and feature stories to other sections of the paper. Daily circulation: 28,000.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

The University of Delaware, Guest Journalism Lecturer, October 2009
Taught full class period of upper-level journalism class. Concentrated on coverage of meetings (school board, municipal, etc.). The course included an in-class discussion.

Camden County College, Guest Journalism Lecturer, October and November 2009
Taught full class period of introductory journalism class in November. Focused on writing and re-writing hard news. The course included an in-class writing assignment and a discussion. In October, visited journalism class as guest speaker. Discussed at length a feature story I wrote for a newspaper.
